Here are just some of the walks you can do – straight from your front door:

1. Around the Estate
Head as if you’re leaving the estate along Kilcoby Avenue toward the Agecroft Road roundabout. You’ll see a gate just after the apartments on the left hand side of the road before you get to the roundabout. Take this path. This is a woodland walk with benches for resting on and bins for dog waste. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can actually follow a lesser, quite secluded track around to Lumn’s Lane or head up a very steep hill (at your own risk) to go around the back of the estate and back onto Agecroft Road via the football play area.
2. Forest Bank
From the Agecroft Road roundabout turn left out of the estate and follow the road away from Swinton. Forest Bank is the first turn on the left-hand side and is about 10 minutes walk. From here, you can enjoy a circular walk around a fishing pond and along the right bank of the River Irwell. There are benches for relaxing on along this route. It also connects to other parks in the area e.g. Drinkwater Park.
3. Drinkwater Park
From the Agecroft Road roundabout turn left out of the estate and follow the road away from Swinton. Drinkwater Park is the first turn after crossing the bridge over the River Irwell and is about 20 minutes walk from the estate. Once here, you can walk or cycle for miles along the complex network of pathways, some of which run along the River Irwell, and others which form part of the Irwell Scupture Trail.
4. River Irwell Walk
From the Agecroft Road roundabout turn left out of the estate and follow the road away from Swinton. After about 20 minutes, just before the bridge over the River Irwell, you’ll see a footpath sign on the opposite side of the road. This leads you along a riverbank walk which will take you all the way to Lower Broughton and onto the new urban wetlands scheme in Kersal.
5. Towpath Walk
From the Agecroft Road roundabout turn left out of the estate and follow the road away from Swinton. After 10 minutes or so, as you pass A.B.Merchants look out for a gateway on the opposite side of the Agecroft Road. This leads you down to a disused canal where you can either turn left toward Manchester or right toward Bolton. By heading toward Bolton you can join either the Forest Bank walk above, or leave the towpath and return to the estate via Lumn’s Lane.
